About Mrs. Russell Minimize

I am Sherri Russell and I enjoy teaching Kindergarten.  This is my eighth year to teach at Grace and my eleventh year to teach overall.   I am orginally from West Virgina.  I have been married to Roger for 23 years and we have three children Ashlyn, Sam and Noah.

My husband is the Children's Pastor at Stuart Heights Baptist Church.  We started attending Stuart Heights after we moved to Chattanooga from North Carolina.  In North Carolina Roger and I worked at a year round christian camp, Teen Valley Ranch.  We ministered there for 8 years and I taught in a small christian school.  We moved to Chattanooga in 1994 with one child,Ashlyn.  We worked for Orange Grove Center and managed a group home with six mentally challenged women.  We loved our time working with the ladies but when it was time to leave we left with two more children Sam and Noah.

For several summers I have enjoyed mission trips to Togo, West Africa.  The purpose of these trips have been to help christian school teachers in West Africa.  God is doing an awesome work there and I feel so fortunate to be able to serve God in America and in Africa.

My favorite things are collecting tea cups and saucers, snow skiing, snowmen and of course shopping.  Shopping will always put a smile on my face unless it is grocery shopping or filling the car with gas.

Mrs Russell Kindergarten Class Minimize

We had so much fun learning about colors.  Your child should be able to tell you the three primary colors.  We did a great experiment using shaving cream  to make different colors.  I hope they shared the excitement that they had in the classroom.  Thank you for bringing in objects from home that went along with the colors we were learning.

In Phonics we will begin by introducing a letter of the alphabet a day.  We will learn the name of the letter, sound and graph the letters in our name.   We will go back and spend a more concentrated time on each letter later.  Our first unit is "Off to School." We will have exciting stories and fun nursery rhymes. This week we will add sight words:  school, and, go, stop

In Math we will continue learning about patterns.  We will learn the terms "same and different" and exploring what these words mean.

In Bible we will be learning creation.  Such an exciting study to learn how powerful is our God.  Speaking our world into existence is amazing.  I did a study this summer on creation and learned so much.  So, I am really excited to share this study with the children.

Bible verse due September 3rd.  Gensis 1:1  "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
