COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

 MOCK TRIAL

Students will learn about the American court system and the components of a trial.  They will learn about courts and trials through mock trial simulations, as well as through Bible studies, field trips and community resources.

ENRICHMENT

Enrichment is designed to help challenge students in key content areas.  It will help students dig deeper into the subject areas being covered in class.  During the first semester, Enrichment will focus on English and history.  During the second semester, it will focus on science and math.

STUDY SKILLS

Students in the Study Skills class will be using the Score curriculum.  The student workbook focuses on five study skills:

  • effective communication
  • how to take notes
  • research (using the library)
  • how to study
  • how to take tests

Additional lessons are provided to develop strategies for improving reading comprehension and for enhancing organizational skills (including periodic "locker
checks").

JOURNALISM

Students will gain experience in newspaper production from start to finish.  The class begins with story creation and moves through prewriting, writing, editing, proofreading, layout, and ends with actual newspaper production.  Students learn journalism by doing journalism.

DIVERSITY

This class focuses on diversity in America.  Students will consider the challenges and blessings of diversity by looking at the past, present, and future.  They will engage in Bible studies and "special projects".  Class discussions will include--but will not be limited to--issues of race and ethnicity.   Homelessness and poverty, physical/mental disabilities, and bullying will also be highlighted.

SEVENTH GRADE GIRLS' BIBLE

The curriculum that will be used for this Bible class is entitled, Character Quest.  Each chapter presents a scriptural study of the life of an Old or New Testament character.  Students will learn from the context of the individual's life how to face the challenges of everyday living.  "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."

GRADING POLICY

Grades are based on the point system--for class work as well as quizzes.  Points will be deducted if students come to class unprepared and are unable to complete class work or cannot participate in group activities.
