This years theme from Psalm 86:11 brings to mind our purpose for living. When the Psalmist asks God to give him an undivided heart, he is asking for direction. Our priority this year is to first bring God all of the glory, then the rest will fall into place.

TEXTS:                    Writer's Choice Grammar Workbook

                                    The Language of Literature (American Literature)

                                    The Crucible

                                     My Antonia

                                   

                                                                                               

MATERIALS:         Bible

                                    Notebook with five dividers

                                    College ruled paper

                                    Lined journal/spiral bound, lined index cards

                                    College or unabridged dictionary

                                    Blue or black pen for testing

 

OBJECTIVES:        Students will be challenged to think critically while evaluating different                                      writing styles including their own. Specifically, they will be motivated to                                       sharpen decision- making skills.

 

·         Students will critically evaluate compositions for content, organization and style.

·         Students will gather, organize and document information for research projects and papers.

·         Students will use grammar, vocabulary and spelling skills for effective use in writing.

 

ASSIGNMENTS:  

                                    Monday --                 Tests -- grammar, literature, vocabulary

                                    Tuesday --                New vocabulary words due

                                                                        Discussion of new grammar material

                                    Wednesday --           Literature Assignments due

                                                                        Discussion of new literature

                                    Thursday --              Grammar and/or literature discussion

                                    Friday--                     Grammar and/or literature discussion

                                                                        Group work for larger assignments or project work

 

 

 

PROCEDURES:      Students are encouraged to communicate daily with their teacher. I                                           understand that circumstances may arise which are unique and be dealt with on                                               and individual basis. These classroom procedures are set up for a maximum                                                       student/parent/teacher function.

·         Texts and notebook must come to class daily.

·         Students may not go to their locker to get textbooks or assignments.

·         All class-work and compositions must be done neatly on college ruled paper in script or typed.  (No printing please!J)

·         All assignments not meeting the above requirements will be returned to the student and counted as late work.

 

                                    LATE WORK

·         Work is late if it is not turned in when it is collected.

·        Late homework will be collected and given a zero.

·         Late projects & tests will drop 20% on the first day and 10% for each additional day.

 

                                    ABSENTEEISM

·         Students must bring an excuse to return to class after being absent.

·         Students will be given as much time to make up work as they are absent.

·         Make-up work is the student's responsibility.

 

                                    TARDINESS

·         Students are tardy if they are not seated when the bell rings.
